Full-Time Faculty, Department of Physics
Samford University’s Howard College of Arts and Sciences invites individuals interested in serving in a Christian university environment to apply for a one-year faculty appointment in the Department of Physics. These non-tenure-track, full-time faculty positions are 9-month appointments. Two openings are available for the 2017-2018 academic year.
Successful candidates will be expected to teach a load of 12 contact hours each fall and spring semester and maintain appropriate office hours. Teaching responsibilities include introductory and upper-level undergraduate physics courses and laboratories as well as courses that serve the general education needs of Samford undergraduates. Qualified candidates will hold a Ph.D. degree in physics or a closely related discipline. Salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.

The Department of Physics has approximately 35 undergraduate majors. The department offers three undergraduate program tracks leading to a B.A. in Physics, a B.S. in Physics, or a B.S. in Engineering Physics. The department is located in the 100,000-sq-ft Propst Hall along with the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences and the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. The department houses classrooms and laboratories specifically structured for undergraduate physics instruction as well as laboratory space for individual and collaborative research. A fully equipped machine shop provides support for departmental needs and a working construction laboratory for students.

Please submit an application letter, curriculum vitae, names and addresses of three references, description of leadership experience, description of research interests and activities, and a philosophy of teaching in a Christian university, specifically supported by two course syllabi from within the last three semesters. The teaching philosophy must also include a discussion of how the candidate has contributed to Christian mission in her or his career to this point and how the candidate hopes to contribute to the Christian mission of Samford as expressed in the university mission vision and values statement.
