Microbiology (Tenure Track)
Teach undergraduate courses in Biology and Microbiology, maintain a research program primarily in the area of Microbiology that includes undergraduate students, and contribute to the Department of Biological Sciences and to the institution as expected of full-time faculty members.
Candidate must be committed to the liberal arts educational mission and evangelical Christian orientation of the University and demonstrate commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, mentoring students, and scholarship.
Teach the equivalent of a full seven-course load per year, to include introductory biology courses, upper level general Microbiology, and other courses related to one's specialty (e.g. Environmental Microbiology, Pathogenic Microbiology, Food Microbiology).
Develop and maintain a research program involving undergraduates. Participate in and provide evidence of ongoing professional and/or scholarly development. Perform general faculty duties, including promotion of departmental activities, departmental and committee assignments, and student advising.
Strong teaching and course management at all undergraduate levels of biology instruction. Strong interest and ability to mentor undergraduate student research.
Ability to contribute to Bethel's anti-racism efforts and cross-cultural understanding. Ability to inspire students majoring in Biology and related fields to excel through activities such as participation in regional or national research conferences.
Some teaching of undergraduate students; a record of successful college teaching preferred.
Participation in an active research program; focus on prokaryotic organisms preferred.
Ph.D. in Microbiology or related field. Candidates nearing completion of a doctorate may be considered.
Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
