You mention that DNA is still largely not well understood. An
acquaintance of mine who is a microbiologist tells me that DNA is a
piece of cake compared to the rest of the inherited genetic material,
including mitochrondia, golgi bodies, ribosomes, etc., i.e., the rest of
the cell. We inherit, not only DNA but a cell, indeed, again as I
understand it, our mother's cell parts, and some of our father's DNA.
Perhaps it is more complicated than this. I'm sure it is.

In my profound ignorance I ask whether there are any theories regarding
the "evolution" of the rest of the cell. The really interesting part is
not so much the DNA, which is "just" a "code", but the part that
interprets the code and gives it "meaning."
