[asa] Gagging is no joke!

"I believe in evidence. I believe in observation, measurement, and reasoning, confirmed by independent observers. I'll believe anything, no matter how wild and ridiculous, if there is evidence for it. The wilder and more ridiculous something is, however, the firmer and more solid the evidence will have to be."

Isaac Asimov (1920 - 1992), Prolific popular writer and Professor of Biochemistry

George Murphy wrote (11.11.08):

Has anybody considered how silly discussions like this will make the ASA list look to an intelligent outsider who happens upon it? Of course that consideration will carry no weight with Vernon but it should for others. I appeal to all of you - just let it alone! Do not respond to the periodic repackagings of his numerology. He will go away if no one rises to the bait.

My response(12.11.08)

But why would you wish to suppress things that are highly relevant to the origins debate and manifestly true? Wouldn't it be more appropriate to challenge and rebut the material I present as evidence of miracle. How can these truths be encouraged to die in a forum dedicated to the search for truth - wherever it may be found? The Lord said, "...when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth..." - but, of course, we have to be willing to allow him to do that!

As this has elicited no response from George (whose sorry appeal, I suggest, is completely unworthy of a respected physicist) I shall assume he is completely baffled by the turn of events. However, as a prominent avocate of TE it is appropriate that he be held to account in respect of the following:

(1) The Hebrew form of Genesis 1:1 and following word participate in a radiant display of numerical geometries and other wonders which find echoes in the structure of DNA and in several present-day artefacts; this complex of remarkable features has been designated 'miracle' by myself and by one other member of this list - well qualified to offer an opinion.

[Clearly, it is now essential that the evidences upon which this conviction rests are carefully examined by George, and others of like mind. For this purpose a suggested reading list is provided below]

(2) The claim being found to be true, it therefore appears reasonable to accept the subsequent biblical text _literally_ , for He who performs the miracle is hardly likely to speak falsely or equivocally in these verses.

(3) The appearance of birds (Day 5) destroys the evolutionary conviction that dinosaurs (Day 6) are the progenitors of birds.

(4) The Creator (and Author of the miracle) declares His work _complete_. The earth has been populated _abruptly_ with every form of living thing; all that is necessary for their sustenance is in place. Therefore, evolution - envisaged as an _ongoing process_ - cannot be true.

GM and his supporters having withdrawn into their ivory tower (intending no waves to disturb their comfortable tranquility), let me make some further observations:

First, a word concerning George's remarkable posting of 11.11.08 (which must surely be unique in the annals of ASA!): he appears to mistake the messenger for the message! Let me therefore remind him that when I am gone, the facts to which I have drawn attention will remain, and will still need to be accomodated by all who seriously take upon themselves the titles _Christian_ and _scientist_.

Again, George speaks deprecatingly of _numerology_ - completely overlooking the fact that significant portions of the Scriptures are overtly numerological in character - as, for example, those involving the number 7. We gather that in 'the courts of heaven' seven has a depth of meaning that man can but feebly guess at. Clearly, then, my thesis is entirely in keeping with a Creator who uses number to accomplish His purposes. And since 666 (Rev.13:18) is a unique example of numerical geometry, His armoury includes the symmetrical shapes that may arise from such numerology.

Here, finally, are samples of the evidence that George, hitherto, has refused to engage with; they are best read in the order given:

"For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths."
