I disagree with this statement. I would recommend a book, In Search of the
Mountain of God: The Discovery of the Real Mt. Sinai, by Robert Cornuke
and David Halbrook, Broadman and Holman Publishers, Nashville, Tennessee;
also a DVD,The Exodus Revealed: Search for the Red Sea Crossing,
distributed by Questar, Inc., Chicago, Illinois. There is convincing
evidence that the real Mt. Sinai (Horeb) is Jabal al Lawz, an 8228 ft.
mountain east of the Gulf of Aqaba in what was in ancient times the land
of Midian and is now the northwest corner of Saudi Arabia. For the
Biblical description of the location of Horeb, see Exodus 3:1 and
Galatians 4:25. The upper reaches of Jabal al Lawz are scorched. There is
a huge altar at its base. There is a large boulder nearby that is split
down the middle with evidence of water having flowed down from it. It is
not far from a palm-studded oasis with twelve springs. The book also
lists a few more evidences for Jabal al Lawz as the real Mt. Sinai. The
DVD shows a photo of a metal chariot wheel on the floor of the Gulf of
Aqaba and coral growths that appear to have attached themselves to wheels
and axles.
