This is precisely Francis Collins' reaction to Behe. (from private
conversation) Collins says that the probability of a double-mutation event
is irrelevant since you typically see a gradual accumulation of many
mutations, and then a single mutation event combines with that background to
form the requisite double mutation. Behe responded that he wasn't working
from a calculation of double-mutation rates but from observations of how
often these double-mutations occurred in nature. Therefore he feels that
Collins' effect was already taken into account. The debate goes on.....
