I am writing to announce the first of three annual sessions of The
Venice Summer School on Science and Religion held in Venice, Italy.

The school intends to be a key venue for expanding and deepening the
scholarship of promising graduate students and young scholars, while
also guiding established scholars interested in contributing to some of
the most important interdisciplinary conversations of our time.

The theme for the 2008 summer school is "God and the Laws of
Nature." The school will meet 27 May through 1 June 2008.
Lecturers for the first year include Paul Davies, Owen Gingerich, and
John Polkinghorne. The school coordinators are Karl Giberson, Thomas
Jay Oord, William Shea, and Donald Yerxa.

The Venice School on Science and Religion will award scholarships to
participants whose proposals are chosen as most relevant for the
school's discussion in a particular year. Interested individuals
should submit materials when applying for admission to a summer session.
All application materials for the first year's school are due 12
November 2007. Notification of acceptance will be 31 January 2008.
More information regarding the application and other matters will be
available soon on the school website:

The Venice Summer School on Science and Religion is hosted by The
Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti and supported by the John
Templeton Foundation.

I encourage you to forward this news to whoever may be interested,
