I note from the perspective of innovation policy and commons theory one very
interesting angle: Branson's private prize incentive. The range of
responses to a tragedy of the commons include property rights, government
intervention, and collective action. Perhaps, with the rise of technology
incentives offered by massively wealthy philanthropists like Branson and
Bill Gates, we'll see some quasi-open source solutions developing.
