Re: [asa] Question for all the theistic evolutionists

I have to second Brent's comments here. "Debate" online is almost entirely worthless from my experience after spending a few years debating YECs, atheists, and other -ists in various forums (or fora for the linguists among us). Other's have made this point as well. It is often simply a matter of rhetoric, not a genuine pursuit of truth.
And (here I go to meddlin') that would include some (but certainly not all) of the posts to the ASA list...

Since this question is for ALL TEs I guess I'd better answer or give back my TE membership card. I gave up debating athiests as a frustrating and hopeless task. Several years ago I deliberately lurked on athiest usenet forums to learn their arguments and to occasionally engage with the honest and naive intention of correcting some of the many misconceptions about christianity that seems to pervade athiest thinking. I got dragged into debating some specific issues, and although their logic was totally flawed, the debate continued as long as there was even one athiest committed to raising the same old invalid points as if I had never heard them. So I quit debating them ( I'm sure they thought they won!). Then a few years later I replied to a post on I didn't realize until later that it was cross-posted to athiest forums, and I was once again dragged into pointless debate with dozens of ignorant fools pretending to be intellectuals. I don't have time for this. As !
Michael said making intelligent posts takes as much time as writing papers. Making a two-line uninformed jab only takes a minute, even though we are expected to respond. This is probably the same reason some people don't debate YECs!

I won't be here long, but this is the best place to get a question answered.
Many of you know that over the past 10 years, I have struggled with whether
or not to become an atheist. I now am totally past that point having come
out of the struggle with some really great arguments against atheism, which
I have used on the internet successfully. But, in all this, I have thought
about a YEC complaint against us TE's. And that is what my question is

1. Why is it that I so rarely see theistic evolutionists directly
confronting atheists on the internet when they dis our religion?
2. Has anyone engaged in a direct internet debate on a forum against atheism
or against an atheist? (if so, where is it?)
3. are we really, as my friend Wil Provine suggests, merely practical
atheists? (a people whose religion makes no real difference to the
intellectual climate of society?)
3a alternatively, are we merely the lapdogs of the atheists, who use us, as
Phil Johnson suggests, but who don't respect us (I guess are we a one night
stand for the atheists pleasure?)

I will not debate, I am interested in the responses.
