A recently published and (IMHO) wonderful book that also addresses this
question is Falk's Coming to Peace with Science. I received this book as a
Mother's Day present and would recommend it for any Christian bothered by
evolution, origin of life or Big Bang theories. Scientific principles are
explained in language that should be easily understood by a non-scientist.
The back cover carries endorsements by both Dembski and Keith Miller, which
should tell you something about how balanced Falk's perspective is.

Many thanks to the list contributors who recommended it!
