This is reminiscent of Richard Armour, in his History of America. He
claimed that while the Pilgrims were in Holland they sent their kids
to Dutch Reform schools if they were bad. The children complained
and were thus called Protestants. He also provides insight into the
initial disagreement with the Anglicans. 1066 and All That is
equally enlightening, for the British perspective. At least these
examples involve deliberate punning rather than the deliberate
    incompetence of the tabloids.
