"What you're calling "revelation" seems similar to what in the
Lutheran tradition is called _Schwaermerei_ or "enthusiasm", NOT in a
complementary sense. It is the idea that we can expect some immediate
inspiration of God which takes precedence over God's encounter with us
in Word & sacraments."
I guess I'm unsure what you mean here. Perhaps it is the words "takes
precedence." Perhaps also the word "immediate."
If I took those words out, and add a couple, , what I have left is:
" It is the idea that we can expect some inspiration of God which
is also God's encounter with us in addition to Word & sacraments."
I still am unsure. I know I've had such inspiration, or encounter,
but I don't see it as normative; I know many fine Christian folk
who have never had such an encounter. It is an interesting concept.
Would you say that Pascal's encounter (pages 95-96 of REASONS OF
THE HEART by O'Connell) was such an encounter? How about that of C. S.
conversion as described in SURPRISED BY JOY?
