I'm reasonably sure that my copy of Josephus has dates in nit for
historical periods going back to Creation. My copy is at home, so I can't
see it for a week, but someone else might have one that could tell you the
dates the Jews in the early centuries were using. If it's just a matter of
adding up genealogies, I SINCERELY doubt it took someone until 1400s to
think of it.
