Whats and wheres are easier than whys. But I can engage in idle conjecture
the same as the next guy. If the flood was judgment upon the Adamites, as
I believe, some probably would have followed Noah on the way out. Noah had
family and friends that were lost in the flood.

Interestingly, Christ himself may have made reference to the Atrahasis epic.
In pointing to his second, coming He refers to the days of Noah. "For as in
the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying
and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark ..."
(Matt. 24:38).

After loading up the animals, Atrahasis turned to his people for whom there
was no provision. (Parts of the clay tablet were broken off.)

He invited his people [ ]
[ ] to a feast.
[ ] he put his family aboard.
They were eating, they were drinking.
But he went in and out,
Could not stay still or rest on his haunches,
His heart was breaking and he was vomiting bile.
